A customer reported that his toilet was clogged with toilet paper. He called us because he was unable to remove the clog with a plunger.
This is a pretty common occurrence: The toilet becomes clogged, homeowner grabs a plunger and tries to remedy the problem. But what happens when you grab that plunger, and nothing happens? It could be the result of something a little bigger than you originally thought.
Sometimes, it is just toilet paper. Today’s brands are more durable so using too much easily clogs up the drain. But other times, it’s something else stuck down there – like a children’s toy, a toothbrush, a hair clip, etc.
Problems like those could potentially be solved with a plumber’s snake. You can try that yourself or have a professional come out and snake it for you. However, if you know you haven’t been using too much toilet paper and you’ve asked your children to stop throwing things in the toilet, then you may have a problem with your main drain.
A good way of determining if it is the drain line is to see if your sinks are running slowly in addition to clogged toilets. If so, it’s time to call in a professional.
