Ask a Portland Plumber: Is it Time to Replace?

A water heater tank is always under attack from contaminants. Over time, these contaminants can cause rust in the bottom of the tank which can lead to discolored water coming out of your faucet or your showerhead. If your water looks strange, that probably means you have rust in your tank and your system should be replaced.

If your water is fine and you don’t have a lot of rust in your tank, you may be able to extend the life of your appliance by having an extra anode installed in the system. Anodes are devices that, in a nutshell, attract contaminating materials so that they don’t corrode your tank. If you have an older system that is working properly, you may be able to get a few more years of use out of it.

However, if your tank has formed a considerable amount of rust, then you should have your system replaced. The problem will only worsen. Eventually, it will get so bad that a leak will form at the base of the tank. We can help make sure that you get the right size of system for your needs and have it installed quickly.
